ANC Mourns the Passing of Freedom Fighter Comrade Mbulelo Musi

5 April 2023, Johannesburg- The African National Congress (ANC), is in mourning following the passing of Comrade Mbulelo Musi, a dedicated freedom fighter and veteran of Umkhonto weSizwe. Comrade Musi's lifelong commitment to the struggle for freedom and equality leaves an indelible mark on the nation's history.

In a statement released, the ANC expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Comrade Musi and paid tribute to his remarkable contributions. The party extended heartfelt condolences to his friends, comrades, members of the movement, and most importantly, his family. The ANC recognized the profound impact of his departure on the entire nation and stated, 'In this trying time, we wish them strength and fortitude, acknowledging that their loss is profound and deeply felt by the entire nation.'"

Comrade Musi belonged to the generation of who made immense sacrifices for the cause of freedom. He endured relentless state harassment, police brutality, and torture. An ANC representative noted, "Comrade Musi's legacy as a brave freedom fighter will continue to inspire generations to come."

Comrade Musi joined the ANC in August 1976 after the 16 June Uprising. He survived the 1981 Matola raids during which 12 MK soldiers and 1 Mozambican citizen were killed. His courageous actions exposed the brutality of the apartheid regime, leaving an indomitable mark on the struggle for justice. A member of the MKLWV (Mkhonto weSizwe Liberation War Veterans) expressed, "His sacrifice and dedication will forever be remembered by the ANC and the nation."

Comrade Musi was highly esteemed within the ANC for his outstanding public service. He previously served as a spokesperson for the Department of Social Development and, at the time of his passing, held the position of spokesperson for the uMkhonto weSizwe Liberation War Veterans. The ANC called upon the youth to draw inspiration from his revolutionary example, characterized by personal sacrifice, unwavering loyalty, and political discipline.He contributed enormously to the downfall of apartheid and to the creation of a new democratic South Africa.
